Who can participate?
​IDC is open to dancers of all levels, from beginners to serious dance students. We welcome participants from everywhere!

How do I register?
​You can register for the competition by going to the Registration page and create an account. From here you will be able to upload your choreographies that you would like to enter into the IDC Berlin. To make sure you are registering correctly, please check our tutorials.

I’m not sure which Dance Style to register in?
​Classical Ballet: Traditional ballet techniques and forms. Classical variations from traditional repertoire.
Contemporary: A fusion of classical ballet with modern elements. Classical lines and movements may still be used (stretched legs and pointed feet).
Modern Dance: Contemporary techniques, including floor work and fluid movements. Classical lines are not necessary
Character Dance/ National Dance/ Folklore: Dance that incorporates storytelling through folk styles (Czardas, Polka, Mazurka...)
Jazz Dance/ Show Dance/ Musical Theatre: Rhythmic, energetic movement often influenced by pop culture and "Broadway"
Hip Hop/ Street/ Commercial: Street-style dance focusing on rhythm, footwork, and freestyle movements
Choreographic Composition: Abstract and undefined dance styles that blend multiple forms

Am I allowed to use props?
​Yes props are allowed, but the participants are responsible for their own props at all times.
​
Am I allowed to compete in more than one number in the same category?
​Yes, you may compete multiple times in the same category, however only your highest score will be counted towards the top placements. You therefore may compete and receive your adjudication and feedback, but you may only place once.
​
Which age category do we register in if there are multiple ages in a group?
​Always register in the age category which is the average number of ages. Take the total sum of all ages, and divide by the amount of dancers in the group.

Do I have to wear Pointe Shoes?
​Please check our Competition Guidelines for information on pointe shoes.
Dancers under 12 years may not wear pointe shoes. Dancers over 14 are expected to wear pointe shoes for classical solo entries.

Can I attend the masterclasses if I’m not competing?
​Yes! Our masterclasses are open to all dancers, whether or not they are competing in the IDC. They will also be watched by our judges and participants will receive prizes and scholarships as well from the masterclasses.​
​
How can I buy tickets?
​Tickets for audience members will be available for purchase online or at the door, depending on availability.
​
Does IDC offer housing or accommodation?
​No we do not, but please check out our partner hotels under Contact and Locations for more information where to stay in Berlin.

How are the competing dancers evaluated?
4 Judges will evaluate your performance out of 100 points
Technique = 40 points
Artistry/ Stage presence = 30 points
Staging and Performance execution= 20 Points
Choreography= 10 Points
The lowest score of the 4 judges will be cancelled, and your final score will be out of a total of 300 points.

Each entry will receive a medal based on their point score which is known as their "Adjudication".
​
Who are the winners?
From each age category, the top 5 Solo winners, top 3 Duets/ Trios and Groups will be announced.
The first place winner of the Solo category will receive the "Best Overall Talent" award.
